Engineering vacancies drop

While numbers of engineering vacancies have declined in July, there remains a demand for senior talent, according to engineering recruiter Roevin’s recruitment market commentary for July.

Director Craig Slater says: “The total number of vacancies for engineers within the UK has fallen. The number of vacancies has decreased by 0.48% down to 24,520 and there has been a 0.58% reduction in the number of contractors to 1861. We anticipate that as North Sea projects re-emerge and London 2012 gets closer, this trend will switch to growth.

“Senior engineers are the most in demand role this month as development starts on some of the largest global infrastructure projects. The projects most likely to be impacting on these trends are airport related.

“These projects have clear engineering challenges, the runways and aprons, for example, require specialist knowledge, as well as all the specialist managers and engineers within the airport, ie the baggage handling systems and passenger screening. With increasing security concerns, extra precautions are under always needed both at the time of construction and driving operation of facility.”
