Construction for the Crossrail project begins tomorrow (10 January), marking the start of long-term infrastructure investment benefiting rail recruiters.

Daniel Winchcombe, senior consultant in the rail division of Shorterm, told Recruiter the company is currently interviewing for the project and is expecting it to provide opportunities for the sector. “For our business it’s a very big part of your development for rail. We are looking to supply perm and contract senior engineers design staff etc… It could be very lucrative and very high profile.”

The new rail link between Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west and Abbey Wood to the East of London will cost £16bn, with peak staffing levels expected to be around 14,500 people and a high demand for technical skills.
