Change job to move up the Russian ladder

Career progression remains the main reason for changing jobs for specialists, middle and senior managers in Russia and the CIS, according to a survey by Antal Russia.

Career progression remains the main reason for changing jobs for specialists, middle and senior managers in Russia and the CIS, according to a survey by Antal Russia.

The survey of more than 1,000 specialists and middle and senior managers found that 68% said their principal reason for changing job would be career progression. A further 22% were tempted by promotion and would change jobs to get the higher job title.

Basic salary is becoming a more important stimulus for a move to another company (54%), but performance-related bonus is an incentive for only 17% of respondents.

Galina Nemtchenko, partner at Antal Russia, says: “Both recruiters and employers are currently more concerned about a candidate’s motivation, and now is not the best time to change job because of money.”

Location is another deciding factor, with 16% of professionals and managers ready to leave their job due to an inconvenient office location.

Natalia Kurkchi, partner at Antal Russia, says: “Some big, usually multinational companies are trying to cut costs by moving from the capital, Moscow, to other cities and we have supported several such relocations.

“Of course not all staff are prepared to relocate, but many managers do understand that a move can become a good career step up and therefore go with their company.”
