Owen: SG Group won because we genuinely care about staff

That’s the view of Claire Owen, the company’s leader of vision and values, who told Recruiter that other firms should follow SG Group’s example.

Owen said: “We are thrilled to have won this award, but I think we won because we genuinely care about our people.”

The SG Group has a wide variety of staff benefits, including theatre discounts, an on-site beautician and sabbaticals. Owen suggested that more recruitment businesses should take care of their staff to be successful.

“Not enough recruitment businesses value their staff,” Owen said. “We do and that’s why so many staff are still with us.”

Statistics on the company’s level of staff turnover would appear to bear out Owen’s comments. The annual level of staff churn stands at just 11%.

The company was set up by Owen in 1993 and now comprises four brands: Stopgap, freelance marketing recruitment for junior to mid-senior level; RightStop, permanent marketing recruitment from junior to mid-senior level; Fitzroy, interim and permanent recruitment for senior
marketing positions; and Courtenay HR, interim and permanent HR recruitment.
