Business servers clogged up by non-work related material

Servers at small businesses could be clogged up by non-business related files, an IT services and support company has warned.

Connect conducted an audit of a range of firms to determine how much space non-work related software and data was taking up on the clients’ servers. In some cases, the audit found that up to 30% of the server was being taken up by personal data.

Mark O’Dell, director of new technology at Connect, said: “The results of our server audit are worrying.  We were expecting to find small amounts of personal information – but nothing on this scale.  Small business owners tend to worry about the Facebookers in their office wasting time in work hours – but iPodders can be causing much bigger problems.”
