Balance fun with strong performance management, says Capgemini

Organisations that declare “fun” to be one of their core values must make it clear when recruiting new staff that the fun is balanced with a strong performance management culture, according to Andy Crossey, vice president, Capgemini Consulting. Crossey heads up the firm’s HR consulting team.

Fun, along with boldness and modesty,  is among the corporate values at the consulting firm. But Crossey told Recruiter, “One of the risks is, if you say, one of our corporate values is fun, then some people might mistake that you’re not as rigorous with your product.

“So the phrase I use is, ‘As people we don’t take ourselves very seriously, but we take our work exceptionally seriously.’ Although we like to have fun in what we do, we have a very strong performance management culture. So the standards we expect of people, while having fun, are very high indeed.”

(See the 9 June issue of Recruiterfor more of Crossey’s comments about organisational culture and cultural fit.)
