Recruitment agencies who registered under the government' s money laundering regulations could be entitled to a refund from the taxman, after HM Revenue & Customs issued new guidance in July.

An HMRC spokesperson told Recruiter that recruitment agencies were exempt from the legislation as they no longer fell into the category of Trust and Company Service Providers.

As a result, the spokesperson said, recruitment agencies who registered under the previous guidelines may be able to receive a refund of their registration fee of £95 per business premise.

The address to apply for a refund is HMRC, 9th Floor SW, Alexander House, 21 Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Essex SS99 9IG.
