Advertising watchdog upholds Jobs Now complaint

A complaint made against an online recruitment advert placed by Jobs Now has been upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

A complaint made against an online recruitment advert placed by Jobs Now has been upheld by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).

The ASA ruled that the advert, headed ‘Bar, Leisure & Hospitality roles’, placed before Christmas was misleading, because it did not make clear the roles were for escort work.

  • the complainant was asked to pay a fee in order to receive work
  • the advert implied Jobs Now was an employer recruiting directly to fill existing vacancies, whereas the ASA understood from the information provided by the complainant that Jobs Now was an agency
  • the advert did not supply the company’s full name or state that it was an agency, meaning the ad was in breach of the advertisers’ Code of conduct.
  • as Jobs Now had failed to respond to ASA’s enquiries, the ASA considered that they had not substantiated that it genuinely had work available.

The ASA ruled that the ad must not appear again in its current form and asked CAP to advise its members of the problems with Jobs Nows advertising.
