Accountancy discrimination

Accountants encountering discrimination

Accountants are failing to be promoted due to age, gender and disability discrimination according to new research.

The research from accountancy jobs board CareersinAudit.com found that 79% of accountants think age discrimination exists in the profession, while 74% think they have missed a promotion because of it.

Over a quarter (29%) thought their gender was the reason why they failed to be promoted, while 22% put the it down to their appearance.

Max Williamson, director of CareersinAudit.com, said: “Getting promoted should be based on ability, qualifications and suitability for the role. One would hope that these statistics would be significantly lower, given legislators have worked hard over the past few years to ensure greater diversity and equality at work.”
