Recruitment consultancy Randstad US’s Employee Confidence Index read 51.1 in June, its third consecutive monthly decline.
It had sat as high as 55.5 in March, but still remains three points higher than at the same point last year. The survey of 1,253 US adults did, however, find a consistent rise in confidence in finding a new job – in both May and June 41% of employees were confident in this, up from 37% in January.
Confidence in job security was also strong, with this figure at 71%, having been over the 70% mark for every one of the last four months.
Randstad US senior vice president and chief employment analyst Joanie Ruge says: “The economy and job market are continuing to weigh heavily on the minds of US workers.
“This sentiment will also likely remain for employers as they look towards the second half of what has proven to be a year of caution. In fact, many expect this mindset to remain as we head closer to the November US presidential election.”
