Aerospace industry enterprise zone Aerohub, based at Newquay Airport in Cornwall, will create 2,500 new jobs, the government hopes.

Business minister Mark Prisk officially launched Aerohub yesterday (9 July) at the Farnborough International Airshow. The zone aims to attract aerospace businesses, and is offering tax breaks and relaxations to planning regulations.

The enterprise zone was given the green light last August, and last month (28 June) confirmed it had signed a deal with its first investor, the aviation heritage body Classic Aircraft Trust, which will create the equivalent of 30 full-time jobs immediately, with further jobs expected.

Business secretary Vince Cable says: “The UK aerospace industry is a national success story. We have the top aerospace industry in Europe, and are second in the world only to the US.”

The Farnborough Airshow runs until the end of this week (15 July), and as reported by recruiter.co.uk, includes a number of initiatives relevant to careers and skills development.
