Applications to jobs posted on Facebook rose by 1,000%, while applications to jobs on Twitter increased by 500% in 2011, according to the sales director of Broadbean Technology.  These figures were based on an analysis of jobs posted by Broadbean’s users last year, compared with 2010.

Speaking at an APSCo (Association of Professional Staffing Companies) members’ meeting in London last week, Dan Cohen, told recruiters that using Facebook and Twitter was “a no brainer”, particularly “if you to catch the end of Gen Y and Gen Z.”

“It is free, it is extremely efficient, and it is not going to go away,” added Cohen.

Cohen also pointed to the 10.8% rise in job board adverts.  Reports of their demise have been exaggerated, said Cohen, adding: “The job board market is still going strong.”

In 2011, a combined sector of manufacturing, electronics and engineering disciplines was the best-performing sector with a 33.8% increase in job adverts, followed by IT, which was up 27.3%.

Retail fell 15.5%, while the decline in public sector adverts was 24%.

Adverts for jobs in recruitment were down 6.4%.
