International recruiter Antal’s latest Global Snapshot of 17,199 companies in major markets across the world finds 55% of respondents currently recruiting at professional and managerial level.

This is a slight drop from the 56% level of last July, and the survey also shows that 54% of organisations intend to commence hiring in the next quarter.

Antal chief executive Tony Goodwin says: “Feedback from our consultants and managers in over 30 countries on five continents indicates that, whether an employment market is active or not, competition for the best talent at the professional and managerial level is consistently fierce.

“Why? Because the skills that companies need in conjunction with specific technical capabilities – such as effective people management and development, concise and clear oral and written communication, commercial awareness, entrepreneurship and innovation – are always in short supply.”

The highest levels of hiring in each region are as follows:

  • Europe: Malta (53%), Denmark (51%) and Luxembourg (50%)
  • Eastern Europe and Eurasia: Bulgaria (62%), Russia (58%) and Poland (58%)
  • Middle East: Qatar (77%), Oman (74%) and Kuwait (60%).
  • Africa: Egypt, Ghana (both 55%) and South Africa (53%)
  • Asia Pacific: The Philippines (97%), China (72%) and India (55%)
  • The Americas: Canada (53%), US (48%) and Argentina (44%)
