Newspaper Vancouver Sun reports that auto makers Toyota and Ford will hire an additional 500 workers in the province of Ontario at their respective facilities in Woodstock and Windsor.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) is increasing population of is RAV4 model, and will add 400 jobs in early next year, while Ford of Canada is to implement a third shift at an engine plant to meeting rising demand, meaning another 100 jobs.

A statement form TMMC chairman Ray Tanguay says: “We are optimistic that the market is coming back and we’re grateful for the strong sales of the RAV4 in the North American market, which has created this increase in production and jobs.”

According to the paper, Toyota will also begin this year to build its first electric engine in North America at the Woodstock plant.
