Construction has begun on a new £60 million BMW plant in Goodwood, which is to make around 1,000 Rolls-Royce cars a year from January 2003. V12 engines and aluminium frame and body parts will be imported from Germany, and the manufacturer will recruit over 300 new staff to build and fit the cars.


Yorkshire Electricity’s distribution system has joined Achilles Marketplace, the online procurement exchange for utilities companies. Achilles estimates Powergen saved between 10 and 15 per cent on its £3.5 million of transactions by using the site, which began operating in the UK in June 2000.

The growth of the consultancy industry shows no signs of halting, a report from the Management Consultancies Association claims. Members of the MCA have posted revenues of £1.09 billion for the first quarter of 2001, up 4.2 per cent on the previous quarter. The report says e-business will continue to be a major driver for consultancy, generating 70 per cent of members’ revenues in 2001.


Suppliers to MG Rover are vowing to fight the car-maker’s wishes to move from a 60-day to 90-day payment structure. Rover’s intentions follow its announcement to drop the euro payment requirement that was adopted by owners BMW before the Midlands-based Phoenix Consortium bought the company.
