Defence and aerospace group BAe Systems has signed a two-year £1.5 billion extension to its 10-year outsourcing contract with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). The original contract was signed in 1984 and will now run to 2006, covering BAe’s UK and US operations. CSC will manage the group’s IT systems including procurement, servers and desktops and Internet services.
The Ministry of Defence has chosen UK engineering firm Marconi as the preferred supplier for the Bowman personal radio. The Bowman, a short-range tactical system for use within small military teams, will be in operation by the end of the year, more than eight years behind schedule. The £18 million contract comes after Archer Communications was sacked last July for project delays.
Kelly’s new website, which describes itself as “the nationwide search engine for the manufacturing industry”, is a basic-looking affair - no rotating Kelly’s logo, “click here” buttons changing colour when your mouse passes over them. Only the banner on the top of the page moves.
A government bill aimed at conserving water could increase bills and threaten the security of water supplies, claimed Water UK, the industry’s representative body.
