The government has moved away from the terms of previous large private finance initiative (PFI) deals in its search for bids to run IT services at the Inland Revenue. It hopes the new private-sector partnership will offer greater flexibility than other PFI projects. The £3 billion-plus contract replaces a troubled PFI deal with Electronic Data Systems and Accenture signed in 1994.

Following protests by Palestinian groups outside its Oxford Street outlet, London department store Selfridges has banned the sale of goods from the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Golan Heights territories. A store spokesperson said the move was not political but that the beauty and food products were incorrectly labeled “Made in Israel”.
