A weakened pound will cause people to be choosy rather than cancel their holidays, according to travel recruiters.
The pound has fallen to its worse rate against foreign currencies in 18 years, a decline that is likely to make foreign holidays more expensive as the British traveller gets less for their pound.
Most firms plan on maintaining or increasing recruitment of business support professionals, according to a new survey.
The 2009 market report, from secretarial and business support recruiter Crone Corkill, shows that 39% of companies plan to increase headcount in 2009.
International real estate, infrastructure and commercial property recruiter Prime People is warning that results for the full year 2008/2009 will be “significantly below market expectations”. In November, the company’s broker said it expected profits of £1.26m before tax, compared with £2.4m pre-tax profits for 2007/08.

The French Competition Council is imposing a fine of €34.2m (£30.6m) on global recruitment giant Adecco in connection with an anti-trust case involving the firm, Adia France and their main competitors in France.
In a statement released this morning, Adecco said it is analysing the Council’s decision before deciding whether it will appeal.

Multi-sector recruiter Manpower is to appeal against a decision by the Competition Council in France.
The Competition Council declared that Manpower’s French operating unit had engaged in anti-competitive conduct in violation of French law between March 2003 to November 2004.
