Software providers SMART, Software Europe and Zircadian, which form an NHS Workforce Solutions consortium, have reported 57 new NHS contracts in 2010. 

Together the firms provide solutions include rostering for doctors, nurses and other staff, time and attendance, staff bank management, payroll and interface to ESR and expenses management. 

RMG, an executive search and specialist recruitment consultancy, has appointed Matthew Baxter as senior consultant to bolster its healthcare team.

Desire to move into the private sector outstrips opportunities for public sector professionals, according to Andy Lowe, head of talent management at outplacement consultancy Right Management.

Lowe told Recruiter:“People are definitely looking to move to the private sector. I’m not sure many sectors are recruiting, so there is more desire to move than opportunity.

The immigration cap is hindering employer’s attempts to fill skills gaps, according to the research from law firm Speechly Bircham and King’s College London.

Multi-sector recruiter Impellam Group has recorded a “strong” set of results with turnover up 6.6% for the year ended 31 December 2010, according to chairman Cheryl Jones.

The group’s results reveal: 

• Turnover increased 6.6% to £1,113.6m (2009: £1,044.2m)

• Fees from permanent placements increased 18.4% to £18.7m (2009: £15.8m)

US-based technology firm, KANA Software, has invested £7m in a new development in Belfast, bringing 109 new jobs with it.

Enterprise minister Arlene Foster made the announcement, adding that Invest Northern Ireland has offered £981,000 to help the company open a new development, consulting services and technical support unit in the city.

Turnover in the business services sector plummeted in Q4 2010, according to the latest Bibby Financial Services’ Business Factors Index.

The Index posted a reading for the business services sector reading of 87.3 in December, down from 92.5 in September 2010.

However, Q4 turnover was still 7% higher than Q4 2009.
