The government has confirmed that it is to delay implementation of the agency workers directive until October 2011.

Tesco is launching a new recruitment scheme to put its staff’s unemployed family and friends in temporary Christmas jobs. The retailer is creating 6,000 temporary jobs through the scheme. Almost 20% of Tesco employees have a friend or family member who has been made unemployed in the last 12 months.

The number of jobs posted or refreshed on the Totaljobs Barometer has risen for a second consecutive month.

The barometer also showed that each job received nine applications, down from 10 in June to September.

Job postings rose in 26 of the barometer’s 33 industry sectors. Healthcare and nursing jobs were up 20% to 21,000, while applications dropped in 16 sectors.

A quarter of people are struggling into work, despite feeling ill, according to a survey from business psychology company Robertson Cooper.

The survey of 39,000 UK workers found that half reported good health, while the rest described their health as ‘alright’ or ‘poor’.

First People Solutions Group has won a £6m care at home services contract with Midlothian Council. Maureen O’Neill, FPSG’s director of public sector, explained to Recruiter that the firm’s First People Care Solution, the health and social care brand, has worked closely with Midlothian Council as one of their domiciliary care at home service providers for the last three years.

Pay has been frozen for two thirds of workers, while one in 10 have lost their jobs in the Gulf region, according to new data from online recruitment firm GulfTalent.com.

Average salary increases across the six Gulf countries over the year to August 2009 fell to 6.2% compared with 11.4% over the same period in 2008.
