If Glasgow's bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014 is successful, it could have a big effect on the local recruitment industry, especially for firms dealing with the construction sector.

The bid was welcomed by attendees at Recruiter's regional forum on 30 November, sponsored by JPA and Key Managed Services..

Temp-to-perm secretarial placements have picked up, according to Roisin Holden, manager of banking and financial services at recruiter King and Toben.

Holden said the trend has grown as benefits packages have improved. "People know the jobs are there and there are attractive career options," Holden told Recruiter. "We think the trend could continue."

Manchester-based IT specialist Circle Recruitment has improved the standard of candidates for Galleria Retail Technology Solutions after tying up a short-term master vendor agreement.

Galleria, a provider of IT systems for retailing, previously worked with a number of preferred suppliers, including Circle, and handled some recruitment in-house.

eFinancialCareers.com has launched a new site in the Gulf region, www.efinancialcareers-gulf.com. The site is focused on servicing the needs of the Middle East banking and finance community in particular the Gulf financial centres in UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The site was 'soft launched' on 15 December 2006, and 1,000 job applications were generated in the first month.
