The number of IT jobs within the financial sector has increased dramatically in the first two months of the year, according to the latest financial services IT hiring index from IT and finance recruiter McGregor Boyall.

Harvey Nash has announced a fall in profits for the first half of 2009.
After tax profits for the six months ended 31 July were down 54% at £1.8m compared with £3.9m in the first half of 2008.
Gross profits declined by 4.9% to £31.7m as revenue remained virtually unchanged at £200m.

Elmer Winter, co-founder and past president of Manpower Inc, died last Friday at the age of 97.
In a tribute to Winter, Manpower chairman and chief executive Jeff Joerres said: “It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Elmer Winter, one of the most beloved keepers of Manpower’s history, culture and values.

Clients are more cautious in hiring and this has led to an adjustment in the basic salaries on offer to recruiters, according to the latest Heywood Associates Recruitment Salary Survey. During the recession, consultants have experienced a reduction in basic salary, and commission payments have been stopped.
The global economic downturn has been strongly felt in Japan, with high profile international consultancies closing and exiting the market.
Online recruitment showed further signs of recovery, with Monster’s Employment Index growing by seven points in October.
International recruiter Hays has launched an iPhone application that allows users to search all available jobs on the new hays.co.uk site.
The application enables users to search for roles by location, keyword, salary and job type, and view job specifications and then apply online.
