Heidrick & Struggles has launched a new Government & Defense Tech Practice, aimed at serving the growing demand for technology leadership within public sector organisations. With governments estimated to account for 10% of global technology and IT services spending, the firm sees this as a significant market opportunity. The practice consolidates the company’s experience from over 200 engagements to provide leadership solutions for organisations delivering technology to national, state and local governments worldwide.

The new practice will support clients by offering leadership search, development and organisational effectiveness services. It brings together more than 30 experienced partners across sectors such as IT services, aerospace and defence, energy and private equity, operating globally across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The initiative addresses the increasing reliance of governments on advanced technologies like AI, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity and robotics.

• Workforce management solutions firm Matrix has supported more than 10,000 individuals across the UK into employment between March 2024 and April 2025 through its Social Value team. The efforts focused on a wide range of community initiatives, including employability workshops, career guidance and volunteering opportunities. These programmes were designed to help students, jobseekers and public sector employees gain essential skills and access new career pathways.

• UK start-up Project Brains has launched ProdigyPB, an AI-powered platform designed to revolutionise job description creation and recruitment. Tailored for SMEs, growing businesses, and HR teams, ProdigyPB helps define precise hiring needs by aligning job roles with specific business challenges. The tool generates clear, bias-free job descriptions in seconds and enables users to engage with vetted fractional specialists from Project Brains’ talent pool, according to a company statement. ProdigyPB is currently available in Beta across the UK.

Jobmatch Sweden, a leader in occupational psychological testing, is expanding in Norway through a new partnership with consulting firm Sund Raad. Sund Raad, which focuses on enhancing employee engagement for small and medium-sized businesses, will integrate Jobmatch’s DNV-certified Talent test into its services. This marks Jobmatch’s second partnership in Norway, following its 2022 collaboration with Hapro Jobb og Karriere. Jobmatch Talent is a scientifically validated tool used for recruitment and employee development, according to the company press release.

• STEM recruitment specialist Matchtech has launched STEM Futures, a free, on-demand employability platform aimed at helping young people break into engineering and technology careers. The programme includes expert-led sessions on job search strategies, CV writing, interviews and personal development, and is part of Matchtech’s broader initiative to address the STEM skills gap and support emerging talent.

In addition, Matchtech has awarded the first two grants from its Materna Fund, a £2.5k bursary created to support engineering students facing financial hardship. The inaugural recipients, Sergio Carreno Vargas and David Sarembock from the University of Portsmouth, are using the funds to focus on their studies and development without the added pressure of financial strain.

Meet Life Sciences has launched Synergy, a new standalone service designed to tackle people capability challenges in the life sciences sector that go beyond recruitment. As part of Meet’s evolution into a full-service talent solutions partner, Synergy offers tailored support in areas like workforce planning, leadership development, skills mapping, culture embedding and organisational design. Led by vice-president Kirsty Wilson, the service is built specifically for the life sciences industry and is focused on delivering measurable, outcome-driven solutions. Unlike traditional consulting, Synergy provides hands-on support from design through to implementation, helping clients build the capability needed to grow, adapt and lead in a competitive global market.

Right Management, part of ManpowerGroup, has launched a refreshed brand strategy called ‘The Right Way’. It’s a human-centred, data-backed framework that aligns workforce development with business strategy. The new identity centres on ‘The Right Way loop’, a distinctive visual element with modern colours and typography that will be used across all brand touchpoints.

National student lettings agency launches apprenticeship scheme

In a bid to support young people and grow skilled and knowledgeable individuals for the student lettings sector, loc8me recently launched its 18-month programme, which is open to anyone aged 16-18. The scheme will offer hands-on experience, mentorship and the opportunity to engage in paid work.

Raffaele Russo, founder of loc8me, said: “We’re thrilled to launch this apprenticeship programme, giving young professionals a real chance to learn, grow and begin building a career in an exciting industry.

“Now more than ever, young people are seeking opportunities, guidance and goals to pursue. With this programme, we’re investing in their future – and in the future of the lettings sector.”

Apprentices will have the chance to study the theoretical and practical elements of the lettings industry, and on starting, they will be given a mentor from the loc8me team to support their development via regular meetings throughout the course.

loc8me now operates in 13 major university cities across the UK, including Loughborough, Durham, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff, Newcastle, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leicester, Hull, Bath and Bristol.

Freya Watson-Russo, academy co-ordinator, said: "At loc8me, we’re committed to nurturing the next generation of letting agents. … We’re giving young people the chance to build a future, gain confidence and carve their own path.”

Founded in 2008 by Russo, loc8me manages more than 2,500 properties and employs more than 75 staff members.

• Yorkshire-based Castle Employment Group has expanded its Newchase Court office in Scarborough, bringing together all its divisions. The York Place office will now function flexibly to accommodate registration appointments to those unable to access the new office.

elbo, a UK based start-up aimed at helping employers find the best tech talent, has launched. elbo aims to overcome what founder John Bentley describes as “outdated hiring practices”. Among its features are a candidate profile builder, a psychometric profiling tool and an interview scheduler that Bentley says eliminates the need for job specs, CVs, recruitment agencies and job boards, and results in “highly relevant shortlists in minutes”.

• North Wales-based recruiter Supertemps is expanding by opening a new office in Bangor. Four staff will be based at the company’s new Parc Menai site. The company has offices in Colwyn Bay and Anglesey, and a team specifically covering Chester and North-East Wales.

• Law firm Birketts’ employment team has developed a ‘Shaping Excellence’ course focused on effective recruitment. The course is specially tailored to help people managers deliver a fair recruitment process in line with discrimination law requirements, providing practical advice and guidance across all the recruitment stages.

• Specialist recruitment firm Encore Personnel has launched Encore MHE (Mechanical Handling Equipment) Training. The new MHT Training arm, headed up by national account manager Neil Cook, will provide training and skills for employees operating forklift trucks and other mechanical handling equipment to obtain compulsory licences as part of their job. 

The free training is RTITB (Road Transport Industry Training Board) approved and is now available for clients’ permanent and temporary staff, including those that are not supplied by Encore.

• Online platform Engaging Works has launched Business Premium, a new service enabling businesses to create events, generate business leads and promote jobs.

Hamlyn Williams, a recruitment firm specialising in placing mid-senior level professionals within regulated industries, has expanded its New York City operation. The firm has signed a new lease at 123 William Street taking on an entire floor that can accommodate up to 150 staff.

• Audit & professional services recruitment firm Hanami International has launched a revamped website featuring job alert functionality for candidates.

• Global talent management consultancy Ignata Group is opening a new office in Geneva, Switzerland to support its existing European bases in Munich, Frankfurt and Berlin. Ignata will be providing recruitment services to clients across the region including strategy, consultancy and data solutions to build on its well-established client base. The Swiss operation will be headed up by a team of specialists working in a variety of sectors, including actuarial & investments, international fashion and life sciences.

• Global executive search firm Walter James has launched a new website following its recent rebrand and website launch of life sciences arm Euromedica, acquired in 2016.

• Recruitment process outsourcing provider Cielo has opened a full-service recruitment delivery centre in Manila, Philippines, following new global and regional client wins.

• Digital accountancy agency Crunch has launched an IR35 solution for contractors, businesses and recruitment agencies. The new service helps ensure compliance can be met for the new IR35 rules taking effect from April 2020, when the IR35 off-payroll rules will be extended to the private sector.

• Cybersecurity recruitment firm EliteCyber has launched a rebrand refresh supported by launch of its new website.

• Tenancy referencing firm FCC Paragon has launched a new service, RECREF, enabling the company to perform pre and post-employment screening and background checks to both recruitment agencies and direct employers alike.

• Experienced education recruiter Katie Leng has set up First2Education, an agency covering a range of roles including primary and secondary school teachers, newly qualified teachers (NQT), senior leadership positions, SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) specialists and education support staff.

• Scottish recruiter HRC Recruitment welcomes Tony Baker as information technology team manager to lead its new, dedicated technology division.

• Global workforce management solutions provider Humanforce has launched a workforce management solution app designed to be fully compliant with accessibility recommendations, in a bid to make the workplace more inclusive for people with disabilities and an ageing population.

The app complies with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA rating. This means it meets 100% of the recommendations for making content accessible to people with disabilities – including colour-blindness and low vision.

• Indian staffing agency Suna Solutions has launched a recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) solution alongside a new office in India. The new office will be Suna’s ninth location and will be led by Melvin Singh, director of recruiting and operations.

Jessica Heagren has launched That Works for Me, a new online flexible working platform. Offering both freelance and permanent opportunities across the UK, the platform aims to bring open minded businesses and professionals in need of flexible working opportunities together.

• Leeds-headquartered financial search and selection consultancy Woodrow Mercer Finance has launched a new division specialising in recruiting credit control professionals.

Credit control specialist Jodie Lazenby has joined the firm to manage the new division across Woodrow Mercer Finance’s offices in Leeds and Hull, working alongside Georgia Dutton. They will focus on the search and selection of entry-level positions through to senior management roles within credit control throughout Yorkshire, the Humber and the North-West regions.

• The Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) – in partnership with specialist training provider Recruitment Juice – has unveiled a new initiative, which enables members to share unused Apprenticeship Levy funds for the benefit of the wider recruitment profession. The scheme sees a number of suppliers to the sector donate a portion of their pots to assist recruitment firms in sending delegates on level 3 team leader and level 3 recruitment consultant programmes from January 2020.

Due to funds gifted by companies, including Contractor Umbrella, Brookson, Giant, 6CATS, Paystream, Smartwork, Orbital Payroll Group and Optionis, up to 60 learners will be offered the opportunity to benefit from the initiative across London, Manchester and Birmingham. This is due to new rules introduced in April 2019, whereby employers who can’t use their entire pot to upskill their own people are able to donate 25% of their funds to other companies rather than it being absorbed by the Treasury.

• Growth management consultancy Chesamel has designed a new platform, DiscoverWork, which aims to help companies create engaging employer brand messages and videos by offering specific types of accounts depending on what is required. This includes: the Graduate, the Explorer, the Start Up, the Freelancer, the Fresh Start, the High Flyer, the Established Worker and the Cloud Worker.

• Circal, an HR resource offering networking and professional development opportunities for users through personalised news feeds, podcasts, videos and community forums, has launched.

Circal is an app and online platform built by Expedite, the company behind Working Futures, who have partnered with technology developers and consultants OJO Solutions on the project.

• Singapore-based tech company Indorse, which uses its blockchain-based platform and community of industry experts to help companies worldwide find the best tech talent, has opened new corporate headquarters in London.

• Finnish lead generation martech company Leadoo has launched in the UK. The firm uses chatbots including ModalBots, VideoBots and InpageBots to engage passive candidates to apply for roles in a bid to convert more qualified applicants. It also filters candidates through mini interviews before meetings.

• Recruitment group Resource Solutions Group (RSG) is to rebrand its four core companies. The privately-owned group, which includes Sanderson, Resource Management, FirstPerson Executive and Intelligent Consulting, will now be known as Sanderson.

The rebrand, delivered by Edinburgh-based brand agency Studio LR, includes all of the company’s current core services being brought under the new Sanderson brand. These are: Sanderson, specialising in IT, business change and professional services; Resource Management, specialists in recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) and managed service provider (MSP) solutions; FirstPerson Executive, the research-based executive search and headhunting arm of the group; and Intelligent Consulting, which specialises in interim resourcing solutions.

• North Wales-based recruiter Supertemps has moved into a new office in Bangor, with plans to expand into North-East Wales.
