Bath is tops in the UK to find night-shift workers

Ever wondered where the highest percentage of night-shift workers in the UK can be found?

Bath has the highest percentage of night-shift workers, with 37.62% of its 101,000 population working nocturnally, according to new research from bespoke material and handling equipment manufacturers Blue Trolley.

Based on Office of National Statistics’ 2022 data, the research found that Exeter, Manchester, Derby and Oxford rounded out the top five cities with the highest percentages of their population in night work. The rest of the top 10 were Cambridge, Preston, Newcastle, Nottingham and Aberdeen. The Scottish city has 60,800 night workers out of a population of 229,060, for a 26.54% of night workers.

London, perhaps surprisingly, has the lowest percentages of night workers, with 77,500 night workers out of a population of 8.9m, so just under 1% of its total population. Dover had the second lowest percentage, with 14,900 workers with nocturnal schedules out of a population of 119,200. Also in the bottom 10 were Rochdale, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Wigan, Oldham, St Albans, Bury, St Helens and Bradford.

So now you know where to search out those night-time owls to staff your clients’ businesses.
