Recruitment drive for Birmingham 2022 continues at sports festival

With over 500 roles filled so far, and another 650 positions still to be recruited for over the next year, the 12-month countdown to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games has begun.

The recruitment drive has already attracted more than 31,500 applications and resulted in 2,000 candidate interviews, the games’ official recruiter Gi Group UK said in a statement.

To celebrate the start of the one-year countdown last week, a free sports festival was held last week in Birmingham’s Centenary Square, showcasing 12 of the sports and Para sports that will be contested as part of Birmingham 2022.

A team of recruiters was on hand to speak with festival attendees about the roles currently on offer, how to apply and how to register future interest.

Paulo Canoa (pictured far right), CEO of Gi Group UK and a former professional basketball player, said: “This is a global Games offering local opportunities and attending the sports festival allowed us to speak with potential candidates from the region and experience first-hand the excitement that is building in the city for this fantastic celebration of sport.

“As Covid-19 restrictions ease and we enter the home straight with just 12 months to go, it is fantastic for myself and the Gi Group UK team to finally be able to engage with residents from across the region on the fantastic opportunities available.”

Jobseekers can visit the Birmingham 2022 website for more information.
