‘Desperate’ consultants scam candidates to find out IT market info

A technology recruiter says jobseekers are being contacted by individuals trying to learn about which companies are currently hiring by falsely claiming to work for certain recruitment companies.

Job candidates have alerted Client Server Technology Recruitment to at least four such incidents, says Nick Boulton, company director. “We were made aware by candidates contacting us directly, so we imagine the actual number is far higher.”

All of the reported calls came from withheld numbers, “making it difficult for us to do anything, which is incredibly frustrating”, Boulton told Recruiter

The company has shared a number of guidelines, such as do not share any personal details with anyone who has not identified themselves fully, helping candidates to protect themselves as well as not providing closely-held market information.

“Quite simply, this is a scam by desperate consultants and agencies,” Boulton alleged. “These people are taking advantage of Client Server’s strong reputation in the market to hoodwink people into sharing information about companies who are hiring. It’s an unfortunate fact that these incidents happen more during downturns, but we find this behaviour abhorrent.”
