Industry letter calls on government to ‘champion’ recruitment’s role

Recruitment professionals and trade organisations have called on work and pensions minister Therese Coffey to support a joint proposition for how the sector and government can work together to get the economy fired up.

An 8 June letter requesting that the government “champion the role our sector can play” in supporting unemployed people via private employment businesses was signed by the leaders of the Association of Labour Providers (ALP), the Association of Professional Staffing Company (APSCo), The Employment Agents Movement (TEAM) and the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC).

“The country faces higher unemployment than we have seen for many years,” the letter says, “…but our industry has the capacity to help.”

The letter goes on to say that by committing resource through private employment businesses has “two clear benefits” of immediate help for the unemployed and “a more robust recruitment sector as the recovery heats up”.

Further, the letter says: “Committing resources to employability services being delivered by private sector recruitment consultancies is an investment that will pay off for workers and the government alike.”
