Facebook creates 1,000 new jobs in London

Facebook is to create 1,000 new roles in London during 2020, with a large number added to its team tackling harmful online content.

According to reports, more than half the new jobs will be technology-focused, with roles in software engineering, product design and data science, the company said.

Many of the new roles will be within the firm’s Community Integrity (CI) team, which builds the tools used to detect and remove harmful content across Facebook’s platforms, addressing issues from spam and abuse to violence and personal safety.

London is Facebook’s biggest engineering hub outside of the US, and the platform is currently building new office space in King’s Cross, which is due to open late next year.

It will bring Facebook’s workforce to more than 4,000 in the UK.
