Scarlett enjoys the sweet smell of success on The Apprentice

Did Our Scarlett’s efforts on The Apprentice this week create the sweet smell of success or stink out Lord Sugar’s boardroom?

In the final challenge before their business plans are scrutinised within an inch of their lives, this year’s candidates were summoned to Burlington House in Central London, home to five learned societies, including the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Lord Sugar asked the candidates to don lab coats and goggles as he challenged them to create and sell their own perfume. The teams were charged with their developing their own signature scents and design and brand a unique bottle, before attempting to secure sales from two major retailers.

Recruitment’s representative on the show, Scarlett Allen-Horton, excelled in her job of choosing the bottle, designing the packaging and creating the straplines for her team’s androgynous perfume, Captivation. Our Scarlett felt quite chuffed with her efforts and hoped that Carina and Lottie would be equally enamoured with her design. “Hopefully they’ll be pleased with what I’ve done, as ultimately I’ve come up with – everything!” she declared.

Her hard work could have been in vain, though, due to the overpowering nature of the perfume (or parfam, as renamed by Lewis ‘I’m-in-it-to-win-it’ Ellis). Lord Sugar’s henchman (sorry) right-hand woman Baroness (Karren) Brady was almost knocked out by the strength and outrageously high number of ingredients that made up the scent. “It’s got everything but the kitchen sink. Smells like the kitchen sink, though,” she opined to camera.

However, due to a disastrous performance from the opposing team, Our Scarlett’s team won the challenge, leaving Dean Ahmad, Pamela Laird and Lewis to face the dreaded boardroom showdown, where Dean was fired by Lord Sugar.

So next week, on to the Final Five and the dreaded interviews. We’re all rooting for you Scarlett – knock ’em dead! Not literally, even though you might want to after the grilling that lies ahead…
