Recruitment’s Scarlett beats off a boardroom bashing on The Apprentice

Week three on BBC TV reality show The Apprentice and Scarlett Allen-Horton (pictured centre) is still flying the flag for the recruitment industry.

This week, to prevent another trouncing by the girls, Lord Sugar mixed up the teams, moving the unsuccessful boys around to even out the personnel. The task was to design and sell a toy for the 6-8-year-old market. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, for Our Scarlett’s team – now called Unison – quite a lot, actually. Scarlett was assigned to the design sub-team, under the leadership of ‘cheeky chappie’ Thomas (above, right), and they came up with the idea of Tommy the Talking Turtle. Tommy the Turtle would be like a friend to a child, and when you pushed one of his buttons, he would come up with a self-affirming statement for a confidence boost.

All well and good, but Scarlett spotted the flaw: it was far too young for a 6 or 8-year-old. However, there was no stopping ‘cheeky-chappie-talk-you-into-submission’ Thomas.

Neither was there any holding back with team leader Riyonn (above, left) and his dancing animals viral video, which would probably have gone viral for all the wrong reasons… Having watched the final video with dropped jaw, Scarlett used the all the smooth talk and subtleness learnt from recruitment, and in true diplomatic style proclaimed sweetly: “I don’t think it’s completely terrible.”

So for the first time Our Scarlett was on the losing team – in fact, they didn’t even get out of the starting blocks, as no toy retailer wanted to buy a single item. However, as there was no hint that she had had any part in the team’s failure, she was sent back to the house – no doubt to ridicule the winning team’s efforts at balloon making (watch the episode if you’re at all interested).

So sighs of relief all round and fingers crossed for next week, Scarlett. Maybe Tommy the Talking Turtle can give you a few words of comfort…?
