Emirates holds recruitment day for well-groomed cabin crew in Belfast

Dubai-based Emirates is hosting a cabin crew recruitment day in Belfast tomorrow [15 October].

The airline says it is looking to recruit candidates who stand out: “Namely, you’ll be positive, confident, flexible, friendly and very keen to help others,” states the company, as well as individuals, who are “culturally aware and reflect who we are – professional, empathetic, progressive, visionary and cosmopolitan”.

However, the criteria that candidates are required to meet go well beyond those of a typical customer-facing job. And “in order to set a great first impression,” the airline asks candidates “to consult our grooming guidelines”, before attending the event at the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel.

Stipulations for women attending include full face make-up, but only lipstick, no lip gloss; manicured nails with nail varnish in clear, red or French manicure; and high-heeled shoes. Any loose hair must be pinned up. Those wearing a skirt must ensure it is at least 1 inch below the knee.

Men must have neat, short hair, be clean shaven, have clean nails, wear formal shoes and no make-up. No visible tattoos are allowed for either men or women.

According to the airline’s website, only individuals who are “physically fit” and with “a healthy body mass index (BMI)” need apply.

For safety reasons, those attending must be at least 160cm tall, and have an arm reach of 212cm when standing on tiptoes.

Those attending the assessment day will be asked to participate in group exercises, followed by an interview. Those invited will already have successfully completed Emirates’ online assessment.
