Busy bee recruiter Benefer gets real with a honey of a rap

Recruiter, Come Dine With Me winner and hero to hedgehogs across the land, busy Peter Benefer is back!

However, this time he’s laying down rhymes to highlight the plight of the bees.

Back in 2017, Recruiter brought readers news of how Benefer donated his £1k winnings to charity Hedgehog Emergency Rescue Yorkshire after emerging victorious on Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me.

But beekeeper Benefer – and principal consultant with recruiter CSG Talent – has now taken to YouTube to rap about bees and the multi-faceted nature of the threats they face – as well as the importance of people keeping bees.

Speaking to Recruiter, Benefer explained the idea for the rap came to him on walk in the Lake District.

“I wrote the rap during the day of that walk – my daughter doesn’t think I’m cool and us beekeepers generally aren’t. I wanted to take the Mickey out of myself while also trying to raise awareness of the multi-faceted nature of the threat bees face, and hopefully get people growing more flowers. Habitat loss is possibly the most pressing threat facing bees.

“Luckily, I know a lovely lady called Kerry Maule, who used to be a presenter on Made in Leeds – she helped me put the video together, had some great ideas and did a sterling job. She’s almost as bonkers as me!

“The video has blown up! Over 40,000 views and I only released it late on Sunday! I will definitely make more videos, but I need more material before I could dream of a tour!”

Although Benefer adds hedgehogs remain close to his heart. “I’m always doing work for the hedgehogs – I now have a hedgehog tattoo! – and I did a Come Dine With Me reunion on Friday and the crazy Elaine [Borges-Ibanez] joined us again and made a generous donation (there are lots of pictures on Facebook).

“I walked the Three Peaks three times consecutively for them last year and on 14 October I am running 14 miles a day for 14 days – if anyone who pays HERBY (Hedgehog Emergency Rescue Bingley Yorkshire) directly I will pay them double the donation if I do not make it!”
