Turtles need looking after in the Maldives – any offers?

Do you love turtles? Do you like the Maldives? Then we have the perfect role for you.

News site Goodfulness reports that while the role is unpaid and only last two weeks, luxury resort Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu – also home to the Olive Ridley Project Marine Turtle Rescue Centre – is seeking someone to take on an ‘inturtleship’ to carry out the following daily tasks:

  • Feed the turtles
  • Clean their holding tanks
  • Sit in on surgeries and medical procedures
  • Participate in rescue missions to collect turtles in need
  • Help with the release of rehabilitated turtles back into the ocean
  • Interacting with visitors to the centre and as well as informing them about the resident turtles at the centre
  • Attending Olive Ridley Project presentation evenings
  • Posting on the centre’s social media platforms

The successful recruit will be put up in a guest house villa, while flights will be covered and there will also be some additional perks thrown in such as a sunset cruise and a guided snorkelling trip in the Baa Atoll. They will also will have the chance to work alongside Dr Claire Petros, a leading specialist turtle veterinary surgeons and lead vet at the Olive Ridley Project.

Applicants need not have previous experience but should be over 18 and have an interest in the oceans etc. The role is open to anyone from any country and has a negotiable start date in August.
