Three arrested for modern slavery offences in South Wales

On #AntiSlaveryDay, the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) has released news of more labour exploitation.

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of modern slavery offences following an investigation by the GLAA in South Wales.

A Latvian man, a Lithuanian man and a Lithuanian woman were arrested by GLAA officers at addresses to the East and South of Newport city centre on Tuesday [16 October]. All three have been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A Latvian man, identified as a potential victim suspected of suffering from labour and financial exploitation, has been rescued. He has also entered the government’s National Referral Mechanism – a framework for ensuring victims of modern slavery, human trafficking and labour exploitation are supported and given the help they require.

The operation was supported by neighbourhood officers from Gwent Police.
