Sign carrying refugee jobseeker starts new job today

Mohamed Elbarkey, the former refugee who stood outside Canary Wharf station this summer seeking work, has landed a job.

The Evening Standard reports Elbarkey starts work at Milamber Ventures, a specialist business incubator based in Marylebone today.

Elbarkey’s enterprising efforts to find a new job went viral on Twitter after Mary Engleheart, a digital manager at the International Rescue Committee (IRC), an organisation that supports refugees around the world to find employment, posted a photo of Elbarkey and a placard advertising himself for hire on Twitter.

Her post resulted in 15,000 people tweeting the photo to #GetMohamedAJob spreading his message to all corners of the globe, with people reaching out from across the UK, Germany, France, Australia and the US.

Best of luck in your new role, Mohamed, from all of us on Recruiter!
