Two arrests made in connection with forced labour offences in Berkshire

Two people have been arrested as part of an operation targeting modern slavery and forced labour in Aldermaston in Berkshire.

The Basingstoke Gazette reports Thames Valley Police carried out an operation in Paices Hill, Aldermaston, last Tuesday (14 August), which also saw officers undertake safeguarding checks with those living within the community.

Officers also conducted a search of premises, caravans, outbuildings and cars within the grounds.

Following the operation, officers seized a range of property suspected of being stolen, including three touring caravans and range of horse tack, bridles and saddles.

Working in partnership with animal welfare charity RSPCA and local veterinarians, officers also checked on the welfare of animals during the operation.

Two men from Aldermaston were arrested on suspicion of requiring a person to perform forced or compulsory labour and on suspicion of theft of a caravan and criminal damage respectively.

Another man from Northolt, Ealing and a woman from Nottingham were also arrested on suspicion of theft of a caravan.

The four have been released under investigation.

Officers are currently supporting a man, who had become a victim of modern slavery.
