Café worker pensioner Joe Bartley passes away

Joe Bartley, the pensioner who hit headlines two years ago for landing a job at a local café in a bid to cure his boredom, has died.

The BBC reports Bartley, who became a local celebrity after taking up the job offer at the Cantina kitchen and bar in Paignton, Devon, in December 2016, has passed away.

Revealing the sad news, the café paid tribute to the ex-serviceman on Facebook, who finally retired in March, saying everyone would miss his “infectious laugh and incredible zest for life”, while café owner Kate Allen said he had been “a breath of fresh air”.

In December 2016, Recruiter spoke to Allen, who revealed Bartley had “stormed” his interview landing himself a front-of-house role.
