Butler’s salary more Upstairs than Downstairs
Whether you were a fan of the original Upstairs Downstairs TV drama series or its revival in 2012, household cook Mrs Bridges would faint dead away at the salaries on offer today.
So if you fancy exchanging the world of recruitment for an Upstairs Downstairs role, you could command a yearly salary of more than £40k.
New research released by London-based private household recruitment consultants Greycoat Lumleys reveals Londoners can expect to pay a starting salary of £30k per year for a full-time housekeeper or housekeeper/cook, or from £37.5k for a live-out head housekeeper.
A live-out butler commands a starting salary of £40k and a live-in butler will start at £38k. Live-out nannies start at £35k, while live-ins start at £26k. Those who have one child and want a temporary maternity nurse can expect to pay up to £250 per day – or £325 per day in the case of twins.
It seems you can get the staff these days – you just have to pay for it. As Mrs Bridges so often opined: “Well, I must say…!”
