Workers come up with far-fetched excuses for absence

What’s the worst excuse you’ve heard one of your temps give for failing to turn up for an assignment? Can it beat ‘There’s a lion in my garden’ or ‘I accidentally got on a flight to Spain’?

Ahead of National Sickie Day next Monday, health & safety and HR & employment law support provider Citation has complied a list of some of the most bizarre porkies workers have given for not showing up at work.

As well as the aforementioned excuses, other bluffs include:

• ‘My teeth are too white’
• ‘It’s too cold to leave my house’
• ‘I had a one night stand and don’t know where I am’
• ‘A fortune teller told me I should stay at home today’ and
• ‘My ex-partner set all my clothes on fire’.
