Recruiters call for improvement in Army recruitment

The admission by defence secretary Gavin Williamson that the state of British Army recruitment was “unacceptable” has prompted recruiters to call for change. Williamson’s remark, made in a speech last week, came after it was revealed that it takes an average of 300 days for an application to join the Army to be completed.

Last year, although the Army received more than 100,000 applications, only 7,441 new recruits were hired, leaving it 4,000 short. Following a deal signed in March 2012, Army recruitment has been overseen by outsourcing company Capita.
