Jail for Singapore woman posing as recruiter

A Singaporean woman has been fined S$50k (£27.4k) and jailed for 10 weeks’ for running a recruitment agency without a valid employment agency (EA) licence.
An investigation taking place between November 2014 and March 2016 found Noor Hayah Binte Gulam had deceived clients into thinking she was licensed by using another EA licence holder’s licence, collecting S$25,665 in agency fees.
A public complaint led Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower to track her down, uncovering her illegal activities and leading to her arrest. MOM confirmed it would now be taking separate action against the licence holder involved in the case.
As Gulam did not pay the fine, she will serve 10 weeks’ imprisonment.
