Ex-recruiter Porter helps Essex to become county champions

The determination and drive that made the leading wicket taker in this year’s County Cricket Championship a successful recruiter has helped his county become champions.

Today saw Essex County Cricket Club win their first title in a quarter of a century. In their ranks is bowler Jamie Porter, who left healthcare recruiter Mediplacements, where he was a recruitment consultant, to pursue a cricketing career with Essex CCC four years ago.

Recruiter spoke to Jamie’s dad Steve, who is managing director of Mediplacements, about his son’s exploits ahead of Essex rubberstamping their title.

“I think determination and discipline and commitment to a task – all of these kinds of things – drive, attitude – the things that make a successful recruitment consultant can go on and make you a successful sportsman. And the other way.

“I know there are a lot of recruitment companies out there who recruit ex-sports people because they have all these characteristics that will make them successful in recruitment.

“Jamie has worked incredibly hard to get where he is today. Off season he works hard – he listens to his coaches. He’s shown very good dedication to his sport and I think that has taken him to where he is now. If he keeps doing that there are no barriers [to his success].”

Congratulations to Jamie and the rest of the Essex CCC team. Don’t get too bowled out tonight at the celebrations…
