Ruff day recruiting? Not with these top dogs in the office…

To mark National Pet Day, Recruiter spoke to a number of agencies reaping the rewards of having a canine consultant to call upon.
The Crewing Company has double act – Dexter and Rosie (pictured above) meeting candidates – who a spokesperson told Recruiter bring more than just “wagging tails and sloppy chops” to the company.
“They are a way of ensuring the staff are happy and relaxed in their working environment – who doesn’t love something fluffy to cuddle? They also represent the nature of TCC’s culture: open-minded, friendly and willing to accommodate new situations.
“Our candidates that come in can’t resist giving the dogs a good scratch behind the ear and are always cheerful when they’re around. It often makes them open up a bit more about their ideal jobs and background because they’re instantly more comfortable in the company of Rosie and Dex (and the TCC team).
"This enables us to really tailor our recruitment style to them – we listen to their needs and can put them forward for perfectly suited jobs as a result.”

Next up we have little Paisley (pictured right), who owner Becky Earl, operations manager at TEC Group International, told Recruiter boasts the job title of ‘chief of cuddles’. “Me and my partner work together and were looking to get a dog but we’re in the office 11 hours of the day and didn’t think it was fair to get a puppy if she was stuck at home all day.
“Our CEO said it would be fine for us to have an office dog so we thought this is the perfect opportunity. “She comes in with us every day. With recruitment being quite a stressful environment – it’s great having her around because she brings down the stress levels if anyone is having issues that day. Everyone loves her.”

Finally, we have Molly (pictured right), who owner Sandra Smart, managing director at Octopus Personnel, told Recruiter has been with the company since Smart started the agency a decade ago.
“She always goes out and greets candidates and anybody that comes into the office. “With some people, it can be a little bit daunting coming into an office if they’ve not gone into a recruitment location before and so that automatically makes them feel at ease.
“We always ask the question are you okay with dogs? and everybody is. She is just a big softie – loves everybody and she tends to relax the candidate before we start the registration process off. It’s also a talking point.”
But it’s best not to leave any discarded food around Molly, Smart says.
“The staff all love Molly – though she pinched somebody’s lunch at a recruitment fair. One of the girls had brought a picnic and left it under her desk and when we came back Molly had eaten everything out of the basket! She is just such a character.
“All of the staff know her because she’s been there since they’ve been with the company and staff will spend five minutes playing with her. It gives a bit of breakout time for the staff as well because you know recruitment can be a bit stressful.”
