Police job candidate arrested for drinking and driving

A candidate who turned up for an job interview with police smelling of alcohol was arrested for drinking and driving.

The Telegraph reported that Andrew Jackson was seeking an IT support role at Greater Manchester Police when his interviewer picked up an “overpowering” smell of alcohol.

Jackson, from Didsbury in Manchester, revealed he had shared a bottle of wine with his wife the night before the interview.

A traffic officer was summoned to conduct a breath test which showed that Jackson was over the drink-drive limit. After a second positive reading at Bury police station, Jackson was charged with drinking and driving.

After admitting the charge, he was subsequently banned from driving for a year and fined £235 by Bury magistrates.
