A famous California couple were out of luck when they tried to recruit Gandalf the Grey to officiate at their wedding.

The Daily Mirror reports Sir Ian McKellen, while qualified to carry out weddings, having overseen the civil union of his best friend and Star Trek star Sir Patrick Stewart, turned down the £1.5m one-off job to play his famous Gandalf role.

Silicon Valley billionaire Sean Parker, founder of music streaming service Napster, wanted McKellen to officiate at his Tolkein-esque wedding to singer Alexandra Lenas as Gandalf, but was told: “Gandalf doesn’t do weddings.”

We'd give up our day jobs to dress up as Gandalf for half of that amount...
