A teenage waitress on a zero-hours contract was awarded £3.5k at an industrial tribunal after she was told by her employer to wear a skirt and let her hair down “for the punters”.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Erin Sandiland said she was exposed to a “degrading and humiliating” working environment after she was ordered to look more glamorous by her boss at Cecchini’s bistro in Ardrossan, Ayreshire. She was dismissed after she made a complaint.

The owner, Anthony Cecchini, said he would appeal the decision.
