Star Recruit: Michael Dugher

FROM MARCH 2016'S RECRUITER MAGAZINE

Ben Latreuille, founding partner of Wilton & Bain Group, offers insight into potential new roles for former Labour MP Michael Dugher:

“When he lost his job in the January shadow Cabinet re-shuffle, Michael Dugher, the Labour MP for Barnsley East changed his Twitter bio to read, ‘sacked by Jeremy Corbyn for too much straight talking, honest politics’.

“For his next role, perhaps he should consider a stint in business. These days people who challenge the status quo are in demand. They bring with them diversity of thought and are often seen as a catalyst for innovation and change.

“The same is true in the boardroom, where a good NED [non-executive director] must be prepared to challenge the board.

Better still, Dugher could look for an NED role in a tech firm. In a challenger brand environment, companies are continuously seeking new ways to break the mould, and disruption is the norm.

“Here, his political experience, ability to grasp a brief and knowing when to ask the right questions should all stand him in good stead.”
