A US staffing company boss was this week jailed for more than two years for fraud after keeping payroll taxes he collected from employees.

According to the Kansas City Star, Joseph Balano, owner of Global Employment Group, which traded as Staffing Connections, kept US$260.7k (£182.4k) for himself. He reportedly spent it on gambling, mortgage repayments on two properties and car payments. He failed to pay a further $232.8k in taxes.

He pleaded guilty in August and was this week sentenced to two years and three months in prison and ordered to pay $493.5k in restitution.
