US staffing firms face fines for failing to train employees
Two US staffing firms are facing significant fines, alongside the meat packing company they provided staff for, after a worker complained about unsafe working conditions.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, the US’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) had already investigated Stampede Meat in 2011 for failing to provide training to new employees. The company now faces a fine of $45.5k (£30k) for its repeat offence.
Staffing firms Flexible Staffing Services and Accurate Personnel, which supply about 1,200 workers to the company, face penalties of $14k each for also failing to train employees.
As Douglas Darch, partner in law firm Baker & McKenzie's Chicago office, recently wrote for Recruiter, a long-awaited National Labour Relations Board decision means US staffing companies should be prepared to assume a greater role in workforce management.
