Japanese junior high schools have scuppered the Japanese Self Defence Forces’ (SDF) latest plans to attract new recruits via the medium of toilet paper.

Japanese news site The Asahi Shimbun reports the forces’ Shiga Provincial Cooperation office distributed specifically designed toilet paper to six junior schools in Takashima, Central Japan, last month.

The design on the toilet paper called for students to contact their nearest SDF recruitment office.

While some schools placed the toilet paper in their lavatories, after a photo of the toilet paper went viral, Takashima’s education board asked schools not to use the toilet paper, claiming it could “hamper educational activities”.

The site adds SDF voluntary withdrew all the toilet paper earlier this month.
